Our Story

Built by Practitioners, for the People They Work With

Global Sentynel was founded because we kept seeing the same problem: organisations hiring large, global consulting firms and getting junior staff, generic frameworks, and advice that did not account for how the business actually worked. We were even part of that consulting machine at one point, but we knew there was a better way.

We built a firm around the opposite model. Senior practitioners on every engagement. Honest assessments, even when the honest answer is to do nothing. A network of trusted specialists we have worked alongside for years, rather than a database of contractors we have never met.

The name reflects how we think about security. Threats cross borders. Attackers are not local. The tools, techniques, and knowledge needed to defend well have to be global too. We tap into that network every day on behalf of our clients, whether they are a 100-person business or a large enterprise.

We are based in Australia, but the problems we solve and the expertise we can draw on are genuinely international.

The word "global" in our name is deliberate, but it does not mean we are a large multinational trying to be everywhere. It means that the expertise we draw on, and the threats we help protect against, do not stop at the border.

We have built long-standing relationships with experienced security practitioners across multiple countries. When a client needs a specialist skill we do not carry in-house, we know exactly who to call. These are people we have worked alongside, not names in a contractor database.

For smaller organisations, this means access to a much broader pool of expertise than you would expect from a boutique firm. For larger ones, it means we can scale to meet the engagement without compromising on quality.

Every engagement at Global Sentynel is led by a senior practitioner. We do not use engagements as training grounds for junior staff. When you work with us, you are working with people who have done this before, in real environments and under real pressure.

Gerardo Lopez

Founder

Gerardo Lopez is a seasoned entrepreneur and cybersecurity professional with over 22 years of experience in Information Security and Risk Management. His career began in London, followed by a move to Los Angeles, before settling in Melbourne 15 years ago. Throughout his career, Gerardo has provided consultancy services to companies of all sizes across the entertainment, telecommunications, financial, and mining industries.

In recent years, Gerardo has solidified his reputation as a senior Security Architect while successfully establishing multiple businesses. His extensive expertise, curiosity, and diverse industry experience make him a valuable asset in the field of cybersecurity.

Stuart Robins

Principal Consultant

Stuart Robins has spent over 25 years in IT. Starting as a programmer, then performance tester, he pivoted his career to solution architecture before finally settling on cloud security in 2014, where he has stayed ever since. Stuart has a proven track record in helping enterprise customers keep their data safe.

He has worked on multiple large ($500M+) digital transformation programs, the most recent at a big 4 Australian bank, providing expert advice on how to build secure, scalable and compliant solutions. While there, he had feedback from Salesforce that his guidance had built “One of the top 3 most secure instances they had ever seen, worldwide”.

Outside of work, he enjoys metal fabrication, machining and welding and watching the latest TV show on the couch

From there, we move at your pace, keep you informed, and make sure that anything we deliver is something your team can actually use and sustain after we leave.
